Kitchen countertop material was a very hot topic here….. and This Old House just put a great article up on their site. The end of the article features a great snapshot of costs and highlights for easy comparison. Thought some of you might find it helpful! http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/knowhow/tools/article/0,16417,213801-1,00.html We still haven’t decided what we’re doing with […]

Teague and I are obsessed with home magazines. We regularly read Architectural Digest, Home, Creative Homes, Victorian Homes… the list goes on. But, sort of like flipping through an issue of Vogue, these magazines can be depressing. The page for Victorians is here Here’s what the interior palette looks like: Sherwin Williams has some great period palettes too, and they’re very well designed, but they don’t put theirs online.
Our walls have cracks, bulges, and holes galore….but after researching (can you tell I’m bored today??), I’ve read that we shouldn’t gut the rooms and put up all new wallboard if we can help it. So here are some informative articles on repairing plaster and lathe walls: http://www.stretcher.com/stories/990621d.cfm http://www.phouka.com/oldhouse/ren_plaster.html
Plans are in the works to start repairing our foundation problems. We’re doing it ourselves because we can’t afford to do it any other way, and because Teague’s father has a good understanding of the process and some hands-on experience as well. If you’ve got the cash, I imagine it’s probably better to hire a […]
When we found our house, one of our first troubles was trying to pinpoint what style it was. I kept calling it “a square Victorian”, which was a good enough explanation for most people. But we wanted to be more precise in our descriptions, so I went googling for sites that could help us. Most […]
